The PRIMARY purpose of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is to:
Suggested Answer: A Vote an answer
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) enhances end-expiratory pressure to help stabilize alveolar lung volume and improve oxygenation. The application of positive pressure to the airways during expiration may keep alveoli open and prevent early closure during exhalation. Lung compliance and ventilation-perfusion matching are often improved by prevention of early alveolar closure.
CPAP does not affect urinary function. While CPAP, in conjunction with any of the ventilator modes, does help to decrease ventilator dependence, it is not the primary purpose of CPAP. CPAP is not normally used to control a patient's respiratory rate.
